The Structure

All wood used in the structure is high grade sustainable soft wood

Lattice. The expandable lattice is 6 feet high which means that no bending down is required in the yurt, and all the entire floor space can be used. The lattice provides a rigid frame for the yurt and is held securely together with over 300 steel rivets. The lattice must be secured to a decked base. This creates a solid building and eliminates the need for guy ropes and pegs, which take up a lot of room and can be hazardous. Decking floor plans are provided when you place an order. The decked base can be constructed easily by any small builder/landscaper or someone with moderate DIY skills. We can supply decks and install yurts within a 75 mile radius of Exeter, at additional cost.

Tension band. The tension band supports the roof. This is made from PVC coated industrial quality steel wire.

Door. The large wooden door and frame help support the roof structure and provide an impressive lockable entrance to your yurt. All our yurts come with a solid wooden door which locks securely to the frame. The door is pre-hung in its frame on solid brass hinges.

Beams. The beams are made from high grade sustainable soft wood and provide a solid support for the roof. They are attached to the crown of the yurt with stainless steel pins.

Crown. The crown is the centre piece of the yurt which supports the dome this is hand made by our carpenters to ensure its strength and durability.

Dome. The dome is a unique feature of The Contemporary Yurt. It is almost 5 feet in diameter and made from 6mm vacuum formed acrylic. This unique shape floods the yurt with light giving a feeling of spaciousness and light not found in a traditional yurt.
